The aim is for communities to be more confident in running their groups, get involved with local regeneration schemes and activities, work towards creating local job opportunities, build the confidence of their members and tackle the social problems that affect them.
Preston and Western Lancashire Racial Equality Council - was established in 1968, it was then referred to as a Community Relations Council. Much of the work in the early days revolved around defusing grievances and heading off the growth of overt racial hatred. However, the 1976 Race Relations Act with its prohibition of indirect discrimination marked a turning point and the emphasis became equality. Since that time it has built up a sound and respected relationship with the client group that it serves and with the community at large. The agency serves an area, which spans eight district councils in the West Lancashire area. Namely the boroughs of Preston, Blackpool, Wyre, Fylde, South Ribble, Chorley, the district of West Lancashire and the City of Lancaster .
