4th Ashton under Lyne Boys Brigade Company - was founded in September 1932. Our first Captain was James Plenderleith who was assisted by Lieutenants Ernest Plenderleith and Albert Warren. In September 1936, James Plenderleith resigned as Captain and was replaced by Albert Warren, who remained as Captain until 1965 when he began to work with people with learning disabilities. Albert always remained connected with the Company and for a period helped out as Leader of the Life Boys', now known as the Junior Section. He served for a period as President of the Company and is now at the grand age of 90 a Life Member of our Company. Albert is held in high esteem at the 4th Ashton and is fondly referred to as the " Daddy of the Company ". The Warren Family certainly figured in the Company's membership with Albert being supported by six of his Brothers, Harry, Joseph, Samuel, Ernest, Thomas and Frank
Victim Support and Witness Service - helps Tameside residents cope with the effects of crime. We do this by providing confidential support and information to victims of crime and to witnesses attending local courts. Our services are free, independent of the police and courts, and available to everyone, whether or not the crime has been reported and regardless of when it happened.

Volunteer Centre - acts as a Volunteer Bureau and provides facilities for other voluntary groups and community organisations in Tameside. We enable people to do voluntary work, offer an advice and placement service to people who are interested in becoming volunteers and advice, training and support to organisations who seek volunteer help. In this way we try to ensure that volunteers are not discriminated against and that volunteers are supported in their voluntary activity. We contact local organisations whose work involves volunteers and collect information on these organisations and the volunteering opportunities available. We also work with these organisations to develop new volunteering opportunities. Our centre in Ashton-Under-Lyne provides meeting rooms, office accommodation, a payroll service and other resources for voluntary and community organisations.
Wooden Canal Boat Society - is a charity dedicated to saving, restoring and using on community projects some of the real old wooden working boats of Britain's canal network. We are based on the Ashton canal in Ashton under Lyne in Tameside. Wooden Canal Boat Society is saving as many as it can, when restored they function not as dead museum pieces but as living working boats.
